In 2005, Ford added to its long line of special-edition Mustangs by introducing the San Diego Special Mustang (SDS). With an initial production run of 200 vehicles, the San Diego Special truly was a “limited-edition” Mustang. The SDS was equipped with a V-6 engine and was distinguished by its wide dual Le-Mans racing stripes on the hood, roof, and trunk. As one can derive from the vehicle’s name, the San Diego Special Mustang was only offered for sale in the San Diego, CA area.
SDS Mustang Features
In addition to its distinctive stripes, the San Diego Special Mustang featured a rear spoiler and upgraded exhaust system with chrome tips. The chrome-themed exterior extended to the gleaming chrome spinner wheels that provided a sleek, sporty appearance. The interior was highlighted by an interior upgrade package that included My Color gauges and a variety of satin aluminum parts. The booming Shaker stereo system allowed drivers to announce their presence with authority. Special SDS badging was placed over the wheel well on the driver’s side, and individually numbered badging could also be found on the dashboard.
